Cuando The Beatles ya tenian clara la imagen que deseaban para el nuevo disco que se cocia en los hornos de Abbey Road: ellos no serian The Beatles sino una banda militar estilo victoriano, lo que aun no tenian claro es exactamente la imagen que el concepto debia tener.
En un principio los chicos pensaron en The Fool, un grupo holandes de artistas graficos que eran la vanguardia en cuanto al Pop Art, la cover de su anteror LP habia sido diseñada tambien por un germano amigo de ellos -Klauss Voorman- con criticas excelentes.

Paul le comento el proyecto a un amigo suyo; Bob Fraser. Bob le sugirio usar un artista profesional para desarrollar el proyecto y le recomendo a Peter Blake.


Peter y la Tierra de Nunca-Jamas
Blake acepto gustoso el proyecto y de inmediato le presento un rough a la banda. La idea era presentar al grupo como una banda con su publico justo despues de una actuacion -quiza de un domingo por la tarde- pero con una audiencia muy especial; gente famosa de todas las epocas que el cuarteto admirara.
Blake de inmediato penso en un collage, pero tecnicamente eso representaba un problema: ¿como poner a toda esa gente de tal manera que no se recurriera a un complejo fotomontaje? Se penso entonces en crear displays en tamaño real para cada personaje y amontonarlos como si se tratara de una verdadera multitud que rodea a la banda.

El encargado de capturar el cuadro en filme fue Michael Cooper, un fotografo amigo de Fraser. El escenario ya estaba listo ese dia, marzo 30, cuando The Beatles llegaron ya vestidos de acuerdo a lo planeado.
La sesion duro cuatro horas y Cooper realizo varias shoots para elegir la adecuada:

Making (with) The Fool
The Beatles decided to adopt alter egos for the recording of their 1967 LP, being a little tired of being Beatles.
Inspired by the psychedelic names of the west coast USA bands, Paul McCartney wrote the song "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band",and their personalities would be those of a Victorian military band.

For the LP's cover, the boys initially thought of using "The Fool", a Dutch group of artists, but when McCartney discussed the project with Robert Fraser, he suggested to use a professional artist to develop the project and recommended Peter Blake to him.
The cover of their previous LP had been designed by a German friend of theirs - Klauss Voorman - with excellent results and critique. The Fool were given the task of designing the LP's inner bag.

Peter & Never Land
Blake happily accepted the commission and he presented a rough to the band immediately.
The idea was to display the group like a band with its public, just after a performance.
Blake came up with the idea of useing full size cut-outs of the people The Beatles had suggested be in the background.

Michael Cooper, a photographer friend of Frasier, took the photographs of the scene that had been expensively created on March 30, when The Beatles arrived dressed according to the plan.
The session lasted four hours and Cooper took many shots, giving The Beatles a choice before choosing a suitable one.

Estas dos son sumamente parecidas y presentan al grupo dividido en pares sosteniendo los instrumentos musicales y Paul arrodillado.
These two are extremely similar, display the group split in pairs with their musical instruments and Paul on him knees.



Esta otra, por el contrario, presenta a John y George sentados en el suelo, mientras Paul parece mirar de manera despreocupada su trompeta y Ringo sentado con cara de what.
This other displays to John and George seated in the ground, while Paul seems to watch on carefree way its trompet and Ringo seated with face of "what's up?".


Esta muestra tres Beatles en pie -John apoyado sobre el tambor- y un George de gesto adusto sentado sobre el busto..

Estas son una Xerox de la shoot No.3 de esta secuencia, pero en lugar de un instrumento de metal Paul sostiene un bajo electrico.
These are a Xerox copy of the shoot No.3 of this sequence, but instead of a music metal instrument Paul take one bass.


Esta es la mas curiosa de todas, Paul y George sostienen instrumentos electricos mientras John tiene una guitarra acustica. El pobre Ringo continua cual estatua con su cara de what.
This is most peculiar of all, Paul and George take an electrical music instruments while John has an acoustic guitar on hands. The poor Ringo continuous as statue with its face of "what's up".
